Come & Try Nippers

The Port Elliot Surf Life Saving Club is gearing up for the start of the 2021/22 Junior season with a come ’n’ try day Saturday 6th November, from 1 pm – 2.30 pm

New and returning members will get the opportunity to take part in beach and water activities with those giving it a go for the first time, getting a taste of what surf lifesaving is all about. We are hopeful you will all be able to take a look at our brand new clubrooms, dependent on completion.

This year we are encouraging as many parent members to bring their bathers/wetsuits and join in our program with their kids. You will get to wear a hi viz cap too!

The Port Elliot Nipper program is open to children aged between 5 and 13 years of age focused on play, participation and fun and offers an educational pathway through to becoming a fully fledged lifesaver and is an amazing activity for growing a child’s confidence, knowledge and skills in the beach environment.

We have many inspiring young people who started in Nippers and have gone on to be very successful in lifesaving and in their personal lives, and we as a club are very proud of that.

Life Member Chris says “It’s very encouraging to see our Nippers make their way up through the ranks to become lifesavers and patrolling members in our club, many of which now have their own children in Nippers. There is something for the whole family to be part of.

‘Nippers and their families are a key component to the sustainability of surf clubs within Surf Life Saving, through becoming lifesavers themselves or the involvement of their family members.

Traditionally, our Nippers and their families have been a very big and strong part of our club and has really shaped the club we are today.

‘We encourage all ages to come and have a try on Saturday 6th November. It doesn’t matter if you are 5 or 85, there’s something for everyone.’

The Port Elliot Nipper program will run Saturday’s afternoons. Group times differ and will be advised.

Parents are required to stay on the beach during the training sessions and one adult family member is required to become at member at a cost of $30.

Long Sleeve Top, Broad Brimmed Hat, Sunscreen, Water Bottle, Bathers, Towel Optional: Wetsuit, Goggles.

Nipper training will start on Saturday 16th October, time depending of child’s age. We have 2 groups (5,6,7 year olds from 12.30 pm – 1.30 pm) (8,9,10,11,12,13 year olds 1.35 pm – 3 pm). It can get very busy and parking is sometimes an issue so I suggest being early. Please pre-complete the Come and Try Waiver and bring on the 6th November, This can be accessed from the link below
